The reality is pregnancy cravings are no joke and hit 50 to 90% of pregnant women. Sweet, salty, sour and spicy cravings are just some of them, while certain cravings may indicate a nutritional need; many of them can be credited to the amped up hormones running through your body.
•Pickles along with olives are a typical craving amongst pregnant mommies; increased blood volume raises a pregnant woman’s need for sodium. Sometimes a pickle craving escalates, and it turns out vinegar is what a pregnant woman really wants; while some even admit to drinking the stuff straight from the jar.
•Chocolate or any sweet stuff is something pregnant woman can also not get enough of; some believe that this craving indicates that your body is deficient in magnesium. Chocolate also increases ‘serotonin’ in the brain, a neurotransmitter responsible for better mood. Women generally have a natural decrease in serotonin in the brain the week before menstruation.
•It's also not unheard of to see a pregnant women eating a straight lemon or adding a ton of the juice to their water, a lemon craving is more prevalent in the second and third trimester and some think it’s the body’s natural way of craving a more balanced diet.
